Department of Public Services Offices and Garage Complex The design for the new 52,000 sf Department of Public Services in Peabody, Massachusetts, is built with a pre-engineered bow-truss system. The width of the building allows a main street at the center of the building with vehicle parking stalls on each side for flexibility, access, and ease of operation. The building includes complete maintenance and welding areas for all city vehicles, a full wash bay, and a mezzanine with departmental offices looking over the garage areas. The challenge in this design was to locate the building on extremely sloped site with varying contours and construction elevations. The building is set against a hill using a cut and fill approach that minimized the overall site development cost. The approach to the offices is from the upper areas of the site while the garage level is entered from below. The building facade had to match the appropriate zoning requirements for the City of Peabody with full brick veneer and metal paneling on the facades and standing seam metal roof.
