College of Agriculture The proposal for the College of Agriculture at the University of Sulaimaniya was the first prize winner of a national competition, which established the first stage of the university campus in the northern part of Iraq . The college consists of three basic divisions: the animal husbandry, forestry and plantation, and industries and agricultural production. About 1,000 students and faculty members share the compound. The compound is formed in such a way that each department has the best possibilities to give its own learning message. Simultaneously, the systematic layouts of the departments provide easy options for future expansion and considerable interaction among the students. The climate of the Sulaimaniya area is defined by the Mediterranean Sea weather with occasional tornados called “rashaba” or the black wind. Accordingly, the buildings are oriented towards internal courtyards and linked by continuous colonnades throughout the compound. The compound houses two plazas – one located centrally and the other near the mosque for worshipping purposes. |
