Central Street Fire Station Repairs

The renovations to the Central Street Fire Station in Wellesley, MA are nearing completion. ARCADD Inc., is on track to complete this $600,000 project within the estimated time and budget.

Built in the 1920Õs with a concrete foundation, stone masonry, exterior walls, clay tile roof and metal windows, the building houses a first-line engine and a reserve ladder truck.

A major part of the repair work is the restoration of the concrete floor slabs that have deteriorated due to water run-off from the vehicles. The floors have been repaired and reinforced as necessary to support the new, heavier fire engines. Doors, hardware and finishes were upgraded throughout. Exterior work will include making the entrance to the dispatch area ADA compliant and installing heating elements on the sloped driveway.

The HVAC system was renovated to improve the ventilation in the sleeping areas and bathrooms. Plumbing fixtures were replaced with more energy efficient and ADA compliant equipment. Life safety improvements included installing emergency lighting and fire alarm systems throughout the building.

ARCADDÕs work included complete field measurements of the entire building, its equipment and photo surveys of all interior spaces. Such documentation is extremely useful in limiting construction claims and increasing accuracy in design.
