Surgical Step Down Unit

The Surgical Step Down Unit was built on the 5th floor Ward B on Huntington Avenue in Boston , MA . The prior inpatient unit was demolished to suit the new layout of one of the most advanced endoscopy units in the Boston area. The Step Down Unit is a multi-procedure treatment room that allows nurses to have direct contact with patients.

In addition, ARCADD renovated the unit’s ward in which a previous 16-bed room was changed into a new 8-bed ICU area with an isolation/observation room. The nurse’s station is strategically placed to control patient flow and staff activities while allowing observation of critical patients.

ARCADD also designed and constructed new HVAC units and air duct systems, power supply, special lighting for patients and staff operations, a new nurse call system, and complete ADA and life safety equipment upgrades. A concrete column structure was used with concrete beams and slab. The work also included demolition and asbestos abatement.

The Surgical Step Down Unit is a 6,500 sf structure and was completed with a total cost of $420,000. ARCADD completed this project within the estimated time and budget.
