State Police Crime Labs
Sudbury, Massachusetts

ARCADD, Inc. converted the Horse Pond Elementary School in Sudbury, MA, into the State Police Crime Laboratory. ARCADD completed the architectural and engineering space programming requirements, construction cost analysis and overall project feasibility for housing 62 research and police employees, visitors, laboratory equipment and various other needs. ARCADD developed a design to remove the existing flat roof (see picture), install a new steel truss system, and build a pitched roof. The gained interior space was effectively used to house the HVAC system. The pitch used of the design matches the surrounding residential neighborhood.

The building includes administrative offices, conference and training areas, alcohol testing labs, ballistic and chemistry labs, photo and fingerprint labs, bomb and arson labs, criminalistics lab, evidence storage and cool rooms, serology, toxicology, library, support spaces, and common areas. The site was also built with a heliport landing pad.
